A Pennsylvania man has been arrested for allegedly choking his own mother nearly to death — because she changed the channel on the television.
Moore Township police told NBC Philadelphia that David Cantrell, 42, attacked his mother in their Bath, Pennslyvania, home after she changed the TV channel, leading to a verbal argument that turned violent. Cantrell is accused of punching her in the mouth, and lifting her up and slamming her to the floor. He then reportedly choked her so violently that she lost consciousness, telling her “I hope you die” in the process.
Cantrell’s mother apparently regained consciousness, and ran to a neighbor’s house for help.
Cantrell has been arrested and jailed on assault and harassment charges.
According to NBC Philadelphia, the suspect remains in the Northampton County jail, unable to post $75,000 bail. He is scheduled for a hearing on February 3.
It is unclear what program Cantrell and his mother argued over.
A Facebook page belonging to a David Cantrell of Bath, Pennsylvania, features a photo of a man in a T-shirt that reads, “I’m not arguing, I’m just explaining.”
