Zuzu Verk’s boyfriend arrested day after remains found in Texas

Robert Fabian has been a suspect since October, and has not been cooperating with police

The boyfriend of Zuzu Verk has been arrested following the discovery of remains just North of Alpine, Texas, where the bright 22-year-old student was last seen alive.

According to The Dallas Morning News, Robert Fabian was arrested Saturday morning and charged with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence by concealing a human corpse. Police have not yet released a positive identification of the remains.

Verk went missing under suspicious circumstances in mid-October. Fabian is believed to have been the last person to see her alive, and his neighbors reported hearing angry voices and loud banging the night before Verk failed to appear for a mid-term. When the neighbor went to check on the couple, Verk was nowhere to be seen but her car was still parked outside. The car was found the next day outside her own apartment, where her dog had been left alone. Her mother, Lori Verk, said she didn’t believe her daughter drove the car there herself.

“She was not the type of person to leave without telling people or to leave her dog behind,” Verk told the Washington Post. “We believe her car was moved in front of her home.”

Fabian was named a suspect two weeks after the disappearance, and has been uncooperative with investigators, according to NBC Dallas Forth Worth.

The U.S. Border Patrol agent reportedly came across the shallow grave of skeletonized remains on Friday. A local CBS affiliate posted on Twitter that investigators says the remains are “consistent” with Verk, but an official identification is still pending.
