Boy found dead near Houston school may have died from alcohol poisoning

Mike Delfin had been reported missing the previous day

A 14-year-old boy found under a set of bleachers near a Catholic school in Houston may have been a victim of alcohol poisoning.

A groundskeeper spotted what he initially thought was a homeless person under the bleachers near St. Jerome’s Catholic School on Wednesday, before realizing it was the body of a teenage boy. The boy has since been identified as Mike Delfin, who had been reported missing by his family the night before, and police had reportedly classified him as a runaway.

Local news station KHOU reports that the groundskeeper saw graffiti and empty beer cans near where Delfin was found. Investigators are reportedly looking into the possibility that Delfin has been drinking before his death, possibly with a group of friends. He was recently a student at Northbrook High School in Houston.

A family friend has started a GoFundMe campaign to help the family pay for funeral costs.
