Remember walking home from a friends house when you were a kid? Maybe their mom or day would keep an eye on you through a window for a few minutes, but everyone took for granted you would make it home safe. But for one 12-year-old Long Island boy, this common childhood activity almost became a terrifying nightmare.
An unidentified boy was walking home alone from a friends house on Tuesday when a man snuck up, grabbed him, and covered his mouth.
“There was no verbal exhange at all,” Nassau Det. Lt. Richard Labrun said according to NBC New York.
“Basically, that perpetrator came up from behind that individual, he grabbed the 12 year old, and he put his hand around his mouth.”
Thankfully, someone pulled up to the kidnapping attempt and honked their horn – sending the perpetrator running down the street.
Reports describe him as a stocky man in his 30s wearing a green jacket and jeans.
Det. Lt. Labrun said police across Nassau County were aware and looking for the man.
“We have hundreds of thousands of children walking home from school. And that’s why again we intensified our patrols all around that area, all around schools, we’re working on real-time intelligence,” Labrun said.
