Meltdown: United Airlines passengers evacuate as pilot goes on ‘rant’

United Airlines is currently investigating the actions of one of its pilots, following a series of rants she made before takeoff on a San Francisco-bound flight from Austin on Saturday.

According to Fox News, an airline spokesman said the pilot wasn’t wearing her uniform when she boarded the flight. The flight was delayed by two hours and she was eventually removed and replaced.

The Washington Post reports the pilot, dressed in a baseball cap and casual clothes, boarded the plane late and appeared to get into an argument with crew members. She then launched into a long rant over the intercom about her divorce, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, and then hurled an expletive. At that point, many of the passengers chose to get off the plane.

Randy Reiss, a passenger headed back to San Francisco after a family funeral, told The Post he heard one of the flight attendants say, “Disarm the doors. She’s not mentally fit to fly.”

Reiss was among 20 passengers who chose to disembark, and sent out a series of tweets about the incident, including,

“So, y’all. I’m shaking right now. I just left my @united flight 455 ‘cos the captain demonstrated that she was not mentally in a safe space.”

Following the incident, a United Airlines spokesman issued the following statement:

“We hold our employees to the highest standards and have replaced this pilot with a new one to operate the flight, which has since departed Austin. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
