Tanya Wiers

Mom found with her eyes gouged, naked, and stabbed numerous times

A South African woman was ambushed in her  home on February 8 and stabbed 21 times before having her eyes gouged out. Her body was found naked by her son arriving home from school.

Tanya Wiers, 44, was found by her son Rolf lying in her daughter’s bedroom at her Polokwane home off of Logan Street and Eduan Park. Police said it was the worst case they have seen yet, according to a report by the Boseveld Review.

The boy called his father, Rolf Sr., who then talked to a family friend, saying that his son was speaking incoherently. The friend went to check on the house, and said that what she found was gruesome.

“I went into the house, thinking she might have died from a heart attack. What I saw was like something out of a horror movie. She was lying in her youngest daughter’s room covered by a duvet beside the bed.”

The friend said that the scene showed an obvious struggle. The bed was not in its original position, and Wiers’ closet looked as though it was searched through.

Brigadier Motafela Mojapelo, Edwell Community Policing spokesmen, described the scene as the most “gruesome” thing he had ever seen. He said that the state of the house and the wounds on her arms and hands easily showed that Wiers “put up the fight of her life.”

“There was so much blood and her defensive wounds tell their own horrifying story.”

Frans Maela, 25, was arrested and charged with killing Wiers. He was found with property that was allegedly taken from the home of his victim, as reported by Eye Witness News.

Maela was placed in custody after he appeared in Polokwane Magistrates’ Court.

The Bosveld Review reports that there will be a memorial service for Tanya at AFM Terberna Dei Mother Campus Polokwane on Tuesday February 14 at 11:00 a.m.
