Pregnant mom found shot to death next to sleeping infant son

On Sunday, a pregnant woman was reportedly found dead lying next to her four-month-old son.

Police believe Amber Baker, 20, was murdered at 5:45 am at her Fresno, California, apartment. Baker sustained gunshot wounds to her upper body and died at the scene, according to WLS-TV.

“According to some neighbors, they heard arguing and, from what we’ve heard so far, someone went into her room, an unknown male shot her,” the victim’s sister, Katie Martin, told KFSN.

The incident supposedly occurred during a party. Several people who were home at the time of the shooting were taken in for questioning. While the victim’s family said the 20-year-old wasn’t involved with drugs or gangs, authorities are currently  investigating all possible motives, according to KSEE.

“For this just to happen, it didn’t need to happen to her, especially her, she was so caring and loving, her heart was filled with joy and happiness,” the victim’s friend, Katelyn Thompson, said.

The 20-year-old was supposedly six weeks pregnant. Her son was unharmed and is staying with his father.

“She has a beautiful baby that she loves so much, and he is going to grow up without a mom, and it’s devastating,” Martin added.

Cassie Baker suspects her sister was slain over tax return money she recently came into.

“Honestly, that’s the only thing I can think of because my sister was just too nice,” she told WLS-TV. “She was too kind hearted, she loved everyone.”

On Monday, Amber’s family set up a GoFundMe to cover her funeral expenses. The campaign has earned almost $1,800 of its $10,000 goal as of Wednesday evening.
