UPDATE:

The family has been found safe. The suspect remains at large.

Original Story

Toronto, Canada, police issued an AMBER Alert for a 4-year-old girl who disappeared on Friday morning while sitting inside her family’s car.

Authorities report that the car was left running in the family’s driveway off of Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue in Toronto, when shortly after 6 a.m, someone jumped in the car and drove off. The child’s mother started the car up to get it “warmed up” before driving. She placed her daughter in the car. She walked back inside the home to get her other child, and when she walked back outside, the car and the little girl were nowhere in sight.

Staff Sgt. Tim Jacob told CBC Toronto that it was likely an opportune time for a car thief to grab a waiting vehicle, and not someone related to the child.

“We are thinking it’s an opportune crime where it’s a vehicle that’s running and nice and warm for somebody to take it. We are concerned for the child’s safety for obvious reasons.”

The car is a 4-door, black 2008 Toyota Camry with license plate number, BHVH392. The little girl is described as three feet tall with shoulder-length black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a white hat, pink pants, and a red shirt.

Do not approach the car if you spot it, authorities warn. Anyone with any information should call 911 immediately.
