A Florida woman was arrested after allegedly setting fire to a home in the early hours of Saturday morning that killed three children and left a grandfather seriously injured.
Marian Williams, 49, was arrested in connection with the fire. The woman was charged with arson, attempted murder, and three counts of murder.
First responders were dispatched to a home at 229 South Lee Avenue in Arcadia, Florida at around 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Authorities arrived on the scene to find the house completely engulfed in flames, according to a report by WFLA.
Two adults and three children were inside the house at the time of the fire. The adults were able to escape, but emergency personnel found the three children – ages 4, 8, and 10 – dead inside the home.
The children’s grandfather was taken to Blake Medical Center where he is being treated for serious injuries. He currently remains intensive care.
The second adult that was able to escape the fire left with no injuries.
A source related to the three children said that the grandfather had previously been in a relationship with Williams, and that they were fighting. The family member also alleged that Williams threatened to burn down the house if she did not receive unpaid child support.
Authorities say that Williams does not reside at the house she set fire to. She was recently arrested after she burglarized the same home.
Terry Bing, Sr., who knows the family, said that the incident will affect many people in the community.
“It’s just like family, regardless, if you come from the same mother or not. It’s family around here man.”
The investigation of the incident is underway. The cause of the fire has yet to be revealed.
Williams is currently being held in the DeSoto County Jail with no bond.
