L.A. highway gunman on the loose

A manhunt is underway

A manhunt for a shooter is underway after two people were hit by gunfire while driving in different directions on the 210 Freeway in Rialto, east of Los Angeles.

According to ABC 7, the first shooting took place at around 6:31 p.m. Tuesday on the westbound side of the freeway. As the vehicle was passing between the Sierra and Adler avenues exits, the passenger was reportedly shot in the upper leg.

The suspect was described as a long-haired male, either blonde or brunette, in his 30’s. The man had a mustache and a goatee. His vehicle was a newer model dark gray or black sedan with light tinted windows.

The second car was reportedly shot at while heading eastbound down the freeway near the Cactus Avenue and Ayala Drive exits. The bullet hit the driver in the lower arm.

Police reportedly believe one person may be responsible for both shootings, given some similarities in their descriptions. The second suspect was described as a long-haired man, with dark hair, and a goatee, between the ages of 40 to 50 years old. He was driving a dark gray, early 2000’s sedan, police say.

The Palm Springs Police Department alerted drivers of the two shootings on the 210 Freeway via Twitter. The tweet warned drivers of a “shooter at large.”

The San Bernardino County Sun reported that the first victim was treated by San Bernardino County Fire paramedics, and the second victim was treated by Rialto firefighters. Both people were taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Rialto police detectives are currently looking into the shootings, though a motive has not been released yet.
