Revolving door: Vegas man accused of raping woman just after he got out of jail

He left his bright orange prison-issued underwear, with DNA evidence, at the scene

A convicted domestic abuser fresh out of prison is now back behind bars after he allegedly raped a woman just hours after his release.

According to the Las Vegas Journal-Review, Ramel Ortiz was released from the Clark County jail in Nevada on March 8 after completing a sentence for domestic assault, and in the early morning hours of the next day, forced his way into a Las Vegas woman’s home and raped her.

Ortiz, 32, reportedly left jail-issued clothing behind, including orange socks and two pairs of fluorescent orange underwear marked “CCDC,” which stands for the Clark County Detention Center. DNA material from the underwear tested positive as a match for Ortiz.

According to a police report obtained by the newspaper, Ortiz entered the unnamed woman’s home in the early morning hours of March 9 and put a gun to her head before sexually assaulting her.

“The only thing she was thinking about was her daughter,” the report said about the victim.

Ortiz is now facing numerous criminal counts, including kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon. Perhaps this time around he will stay where he clearly belongs.
