Police: Grandfather caught shoving wife’s murdered corpse into car

A 72-year-old man is behind bars after Hood County, Texas, police say he was caught trying to load his wife’s corpse into a car parked in in the driveway of a residential home in Grandbury.

Dallas Morning News reports that police officers were called to the Abe’s Landing neighborhood at around 11 a.m. on Thursday morning, after a caller called 911 and said he spotted an elderly man dragging a female’s body to a car and attempting to load her in. Officers arrived at the home and the suspect, identified as Joseph Scala, admitted that he suffocated his wife, Betty Scala, 72.

According to Sgt. Chris Brichetto, Betty Scala was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead at around 11:56 a.m.

Joseph Scala told the responding officers that he lived in Arlington, but his wife was visiting a friend at the Grandbury home when the incident occurred. He gave no reason as to why it happened or what led up to it.

He’s currently booked at the Hood County Jail. It’s unclear whether he has bond.
