Police shot in ‘ambush-style’ gun attack

Two undercover Miami police officers were shot late Monday night when multiple gunman reportedly ambushed them outside of an apartment building on the city’s north side.

According to the Associated Press (AP), two plainclothes officers from Miami-Dade’s Homicide Task Force-Gang Unit were shot during an investigation at the Annie Coleman Apartments.

Authorities reportedly described the shooting as “ambush-style.” According to the Miami Herald, the officers were shot while inside their unmarked minivan, and six suspects are believed to have been involved.

Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez told the AP that the wounded officers are currently in stable condition. Fellow MDPD officers transported the injured police to the hospital in a pickup truck. The specifics of their injuries are not known, but both officers are reportedly expected to survive.

Police have not yet apprehended any suspects in the shooting. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Miami-Dade Police.

The Annie Coleman Apartment complex was the site of a deadly shooting in 2010, when a 15-year-old girl visiting a friend there was killed by a stray bullet after gunfire broke out on the property.
