Terrell, Texas, authorities are currently investigating what appears to be a homicide after they found the body of a 23-year-old near an elementary school.

Dallas News reports that police officers responded to the scene at around 4:30 a.m. on Friday, after someone called in a shooting. Authorities found Darek De Shawn Moss lying unconscious close to the 1300 block of South Rockwall Avenue, near J. F. Kennedy Elementary School. At around 7:15 a.m., Justice of the Peace Mike Smith pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

According to the Terrell Tribune, Moss was the victim of gun violence. A warrant was issued for Ontarius Cardea Morris, 29, who goes by the nickname, “Dub.” Since the shooting was so close to an elementary school, Terrell ISD buses were rerouted while detectives investigated the scene. Parents driving their children to school were asked to find an alternative route.

Authorities are still unsure what motivated the shooting.
