Duke University student vanishes from house party in hometown

Police are searching for a Duke University student who disappeared in his Massachusetts hometown.

According to CBS News, Michael Doherty, 20, was last seen early Sunday morning in Franklin, Massachusetts, where he was home for summer break after completing his junior year.

The Daily News reports that he had gone to a house party with friends on Saturday night.

He was last seen at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday morning when he left the party alone. His home is about a mile from the party.

Doherty’s friends told d WBZ-TV that police had found a shoe and a shirt of Doherty’s in the search area that includes woods and marshes near the home he visited on Saturday night, but police have not confirmed this.

“They were going through people’s back yards with this big German shepherd,” a neighbor told CBS Boston. “I’m really sad about it. I’m kind of lost for words, to be honest with you. I just hope they find him alive.”

Police are asking area residents to check their garages, sheds, and any area outside the home where Doherty could be.

The 20-year-old was reportedly wearing a blue t-shirt with a Nike logo, black pants and sneakers the night of the party.
