Massachusetts woman arrested for drunk driving had a bearded dragon stuffed in her bra when she crashed into a tree on a front lawn Monday afternoon.
At 1:30 p.m. Monday, Amy Rebello-McCarthy, 39, was arrested for drunk driving after she crashed her car on someone’s lawn in Taunton, taking out six mailboxes. One of the mailboxes flew into the air and smashed into a parked car. The crash flattened all four of McCarthy’s tires, set off the air bags, and knocked off both of the car’s bumpers, according to WHDH.
Police say they found the woman leaning up against the Mercedes C280 she was driving. She was reportedly laughing, drooling, and slurring her words.
A passenger was found in the car with an Airsoft replica handgun tucked in his waistband. He was identified as 22-year-old Marvin Kyewalyanga, of Waltham, and was reportedly under the influence of liquor at the time.
McCarthy told officers that she had a bearded dragon stuffed in her bra, and the lizard was taken by animal control officers.
The woman was taken into custody and charged with operating under the influence, among other violations. Kyewalyanga was placed in protective custody.
According to WCVB, McCarthy had a blood alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit. She reportedly asked the officers for a tow truck so that she could go home.
Kyewalyanga was smoking a cigarette while being questioned by police and could not remember his name when he was asked. Officers asked the man not to smoke in the area as gasoline was leaking from the vehicle.
No one was harmed during the incident but the news station talked to witnesses of the wreck who said that there are usually children waiting on the bus on the side of the road where McCarthy wrecked the car. Everyone agreed it was lucky no one was hurt.
