Woman who stood naked on her lawn holding knives while her husband burned charged with starting fire

A Virginia woman who reportedly doused her husband with gasoline on May 1 and stood outside naked holding two knives while he screamed for help, is facing numerous felonies.

Free Lance-Star reports that 51-year-old Scott Bartosch Jr. passed away on Monday from injuries after his wife, 52-year-old Lisa Schulken Bartosch, allegedly poured gasoline all over him and lit him and their house on fire at around 9:19 a.m. on May 1. While her husband screamed for help, Bartosch reportedly stood outside of their Stafford County home, dazed and naked while holding holding two knives. The incident took place off of Devonshire Lane in the Hampton Oaks subdivision.

According to a witness, Bartosch Jr. screamed that his wife was trying to kill him and that she doused him with gasoline. A police reported indicated that a neighbor saw the victim running outside with serious burns all over his upper body. The neighbor called 911 and reported that the wife of the victim was standing on her lawn, nude and holding knives in her hands.

When police arrived, they recovered one of the knives and asked the suspect what happened, but she refused to talk to them. Both victim and suspect were taken to the hospital with burn injuries. Stafford Sheriff’s Office said that the couple had been involved in a “domestic violence situation.”

“The Stafford Sheriff’s Office is on the scene investigating an incident that occurred at approximately 9:18 AM in the Hampton Oaks neighborhood. The early investigation indicates that this incident is domestically related. Future updates will be provided, but no additional information is available at this time.”

While searching the home, detectives found a plastic up in a bedroom, filled with gasoline. Most of the home was destroyed by the fire. According to court records, the home went into foreclosure and was sold at an auction in March.

Authorities reported that the black eye the suspect had in her mugshot photo happened after the fire incident, and wasn’t a result of the domestic-related issue.

Lisa Bartosch is behind bars at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.  She’s charged attempted murder, aggravated malicious wounding, and arson. The attempted murder charge came before Scott Bartosch Jr. passed away. The charge will likely be upgraded to murder.
