‘Partying was more important than their child’: Couple allegedly took 7-month-old to bar; mom accused of drunkenly breastfeeding baby girl

The mother and father of a 7-month-old are facing neglect charges after they allegedly took their daughter to a bar—where the mother breastfed her while throwing back beers.

At around 12:30 a.m. on Friday, responding officers caught a reported intoxicated Shari Treba, 42, with her child, outside Wild Beaver Saloon in Indianapolis. She claimed that the baby in the stroller was hers before taking a swig of beer, according to court documents obtained by the Indianapolis Star.

The Mobile, Alabama, pair were in Indianapolis for a work convention. Witnesses claimed they saw Treba breastfeed the baby and, with Michael Trosclair, 45, abandon her to go inside and get more booze. An onlooker who called police accused the mother of offering patrons sex in exchange for beer, according to WISH.

Trosclair approached the officers, explaining that he was calling an Uber to take them to the hotel. Authorities said Trosclair was “belligerent,” reeked of alcohol, and repeatedly resisted arrest while asking for a lawyer.

The pair had supposedly been at the bar since 10:30 pm. Additionally, a doorman at the Saloon told police that Treba was at the establishment for a “long time” and that he was instructed to keep her outside the ropes and away from the property because the child was a liability.

Treba—who never denied boozing and breastfeeding—had a .193 percent blood-alcohol content level, court documents revealed.

The 7-month-old was taken to an area hospital, where it was determined that she showed no signs of intoxication or abuse.

WISH reported that Treba and Trosclair were charged with felony neglect of a dependent and misdemeanor public intoxication. Their initial hearings were scheduled for Tuesday.
