Dash cam footage that shows a 1-year-old baby flying out of a moving SUV, falling to the pavement of a busy Texas roadway, has gone viral.
The harrowing footage was captured by a driver named Claudia Alanis. She spoke to KSAT and described the horrifying incident.
“The door flew open,” she said. “The kid fell out along with his car seat a few steps away from him and (drivers in the area) noticed right away that the baby had fallen out.”
The heart-stopping clip actually shows the child careening onto the street, along with a safety seat. Fortunately, fellow motorists also saw that the infant had smashed onto the roadway. At least one person got out to help and cameraperson Claudia Alanis beeped her horn to call attention to the scene.
“(The baby) just ran into the stranger’s arms,” Alanis said. “The woman on the passenger’s side, I believe is the mom, got (out) of the vehicle crying and ran toward the baby.”
Despite the severity of the fall, the baby was not seriously injured, sustaining only a few scrapes and bruises. The 1-year-old was treated at the scene.
A trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety was also on-hand and stepped in to help, according to Dallas News.
How could this happen? Police allege that the motorist, 26-year-old Jocelyn Nicole Hernandez, had not properly restrained the infant into a child safety seat, which is required by law. She has been issued a citation, though the case remains under investigation.
