Church bus driver accused of raping children, luring them with twisted ‘Truth or Dare’ game

A Tennessee church employee has been arrested on charges that he assaulted two young children he transported on the bus he drove for work.

According to LocalMemphis.com, Edwin Burgess, 54, was arrested this week following reports he had sexual contact with two children, ages 9 and 10.

Burgess is accused of baiting the children with a game of “Truth or dare.” According to the police affidavit obtained by LocalMemphis.com, the suspect “dared” the 10-year-old girl to ride the bus naked. He then allegedly touched her inappropriately.

The report says the abuse was ongoing for six months, during the first half of 2017.

Burgess is an employee of the Central Christian Church in Covington.

“It’s always shocking to hear something like that go on in our community. Covington is a small town, we take pride in our small town and being a charming place to live,” Rachel Witherington, who lives nearby the church, told LocalMemphis.com.

The 10-year-old girl’s mother reportedly took her daughter to a rape crisis center after learning about the abuse allegations.

The Central Christian Church did not respond to the news outlet’s request for comment.
