A 12-year veteran of the NYPD has died after a man shot her Wednesday morning in what appears to be a targeted attack on police as the city was celebrating the 4th of July.
According to the Daily News, Miosotis Familia was sitting in a mobile command unit at the end of her shift in the Bronx when a gunman approached the vehicle and shot her in the head.
Her partner immediately radioed for help. Familia, a mother of twins, was transported to a nearby hospital, where she died of her injuries.

The suspect, Alexander Bonds, reportedly aimed his gun at responding police officers and was fatally shot by police. A bystander was also injured after getting a bullet to the stomach.
A source who viewed surveillance footage said that Bond approached the police vehicle “with purpose.”
“It is obvious this was an unprovoked attack on police officers,” Commissioner James O’Neill told the Daily News.
Bonds reportedly had a criminal history that includes violence against law enforcement.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
