‘They left her for dead’: 90-year-old woman attacked in grocery store parking lot, thief steals treasured photos of late husband

Texas police are on the hunt for a suspect who allegedly attacked and injured a 90-year-old woman in the parking lot of a grocery store, according to Star-Telegram.

Authorities say the attack occurred on Monday, in the small town of Burleson, in front of an Albertsons Grocery Store location.

The elderly woman was loading groceries into her car when a man attempted to steal her purse, attacking her in the process. She tried to hang on to her purse and she fell to the pavement, hitting her head and falling unconscious, according to the Burleson Police Department.

The suspect took the purse, which contained around $100. The purse also contained, however, treasured photos of her late husband, which are now gone.

The attack sent the 90-year-old to the hospital, where she spent two painful days, healing from a bruised left hand, forearm and eye. The suspect allegedly fled in a dark colored vehicle.

A relative spoke to Star-Telegram about the attack and heaped scorn on the alleged perpetrator.

“They left her for dead, so they don’t care about people,” the relative said. “They are violent people.”

“The whole left side of her body is bruised. She’s not moving much. She has a concussion and memory loss.”

The unnamed victim cried as she spoke to KXAS-TV, saying “I’m 90 years old and I just really didn’t ever expect anything like this.”

Burleson Police Detective Cameron Pilgrim noted just how uncommon this type of crime is in the city he protects.

“It doesn’t happen here,” Pilgrim explained. “And so the fact that it did has got everybody on edge.”

As for the victim, she doesn’t care about the money. She just wants those photos of her late husband back. She also expressed concern for anyone else caught in a similar situation.

“I hope this never happens to anybody else,” she said.
