Police have arrested a California man after he was caught on camera attempting to rob a Fresno Starbucks, a robbery that was thwarted by one of the customers, according to Daily Mail.
Ryan Michael Florez, 30, was placed into police custody on Thursday after he allegedly held up Starbucks employees at gunpoint and demanded money, authorities have indicated.
His robbery attempt was stopped, however, by a heroic customer named Cregg Jerri, who, at 58, is nearly twice the suspect’s age.
The entire thing was captured on surveillance cameras.
The video shows Florez entering the store wearing a mask from the Transformers franchise and approaching the counter with a handgun, which police have noted was a replica.
You can see him standing at the counter, allegedly demanding money. That’s when Jerri steps in. The video shows him smashing Florez over the head with a chair.
The two can be seen tussling for quite some time. Authorities have noted that though Florez’s gun was a replica, he was armed with an actual knife. Both Florez and Jerri were stabbed during the confrontation, police have stated.
The 30-year-old managed to escape and flee in a truck. However, authorities caught up to him later as he lay bleeding on the side of the road.
Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer has noted that Florez has no criminal record as an adult. He remains hospitalized and has yet to be booked, but will be charged with attempted armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
Cregg Jerri, a regular at that Starbucks location, was stabbed in the neck and required several medical staples.
