Police have arrested a Massachusetts man and accused him of beating and raping a 5-year-old girl, according to Cape Cod Times.
Jeremy Frazier, 34, was arrested on Thursday and originally charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation or suffocation and assault and battery on a child. According to a clerk magistrate of the Orleans District Court, however, those charges were eventually updated to include child rape.
The alleged victim’s identity has not been announced, due to the fact that she is a minor. However, Frazier’s attorney, E. James Veara, requested a preliminary examination of a witness, who he identified as the alleged victim and as being 5-years-old.
Interestingly, Frazier was once a person of interest in the rape and murder of fashion writer Christa Worthington. Christopher McCowen, who was eventually convicted of the crimes, told both police and the court that it was Frazier who committed the horrible misdeeds.
Originally, Frazier said that when police woke him out of bed in April 2005 to question him about the murder of Worthington, he could not remember his activities on the Friday night she was killed. This is despite phone records showing that he was questioned by state police that very night.
However, later he reported an alibi to investigators that was corroborated by a friend, Mulve McCowen, as noted in court testimony. Since his conviction, McCowen has filed three motions to be granted a new trial, each of them rejected, as reported by Cape Cod Times. He still maintains that Frazier was the one who killed the fashion writer.
Here is Jeremy Frazier in 2006, as he took the witness stand in that landmark case.
Frazier has been charged with rape of a child with force, indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and reckless endangerment of a child. He has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail, pending a dangerousness hearing. His next court date is Tuesday.
