A London court has convicted three men, two of them brothers, of repeatedly raping a young girl for three years, beginning when she was just 12-years-old, as reported by The Independent.
Alvin Muschette, 55, Noel Hutton, 65, and Robert Hutton, 63, were all convicted of rape following a two week trial in which members of the court referred to their ongoing abuse as “systematic.”
The attacks occurred between 1987 and 1990, ending when the young girl, then 15, became pregnant, according to court documents.
The unnamed victim bravely stepped forward to appear in court, helping her abusers face justice.
Detective Constable Alpesh Patel, of the Child Abuse and Sexual Offenses Command praised her courage in remarks obtained by Get West London.
“She was cruelly and vilely abused while she was a child,” he said. “She has had a long wait for justice.”
“Thanks to her courage she has now seen that justice done.”
Court documents also indicate that the victim told her family what she had been going through upon becoming pregnant, but they dismissed her claims and pinned the pregnancy on a “boyfriend.” She also underwent an abortion at that time.
Patel used the conviction to urge other victims to come forward, telling them that their stories will be heard.
“Those who are, or have been, the victim of sexual assaults will be believed and supported by dedicated investigators,” he said. “As a result of the victim’s bravery and our inquiry these men will now pay the penalty for preying on a vulnerable young girl.”
The crimes were reported in 2015, upon which police immediately began an investigation.
Noel Hutton was sentenced to seven years behind bars. His brother, Robert Hutton, will face five years in jail. Alvin Muschette received the harshest sentence, eight years in prison.
