Nearly a month and a half after finding Michelle Long’s body floating in her backyard pool, police have arrested her 51-year-old husband, Norman.
According to CBS News, Norman Long called police on June 17 to report that his wife had drowned. But an autopsy and police investigation revealed that she died of blunt force trauma to the head.
“Our investigation determined that Mr. Long killed his wife inside their home and placed her fully-clothed body in their backyard swimming pool. He subsequently drove to a local restaurant and upon his return pretended to discover her body in a pool and advised first responders that she drowned,” Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean Dalton said,
According to the Cherry Hill Courier Post, Norman drove to a nearby Applebee’s after allegedly committing the murder. When police arrived, he “became combative and needed to be restrained”.
Michelle’s blood was found throughout the home, including paper towels in the kitchen trash can. Norman’s blood was also found in the kitchen.
“My mom was truly just the greatest person in the world. She was the best mimi, she became a grandmother a year ago. Our nephew’s first birthday was July 1 and we celebrated without her. We’re just glad that the person that did this is now caught and we miss her so much,” Brittany Maguire, Michelle’s daughter, said.
