Mom shoots, kills intruders to protect children

A Marietta, Georgia, woman shot and killed an intruder on Thursday, police confirm. Details are still emerging in the incident, but the mom and children are said to be uninjured.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that three small children were in the home when a woman saw an intruder breaking in and fatally shot him. Marietta police Officer Chuck McPhilamy said that he’s unsure if the children witnessed the shooting or not. The incident took place in a residential area off of Griggs Street.

When police arrived, the intruder was already deceased. An identification has been made but authorities are not releasing the information until his next of kin are found and notified. The incident happened a little after 2 a.m.

According to McPhilamy, calls to the area are rare. He called it a “quiet area” with little criminal activity.

Neighbor Jasmine Garry said that the neighborhood is like a family.

“We’re all family here because pretty much everyone on this street has lived here their entire lives…It’s really shocking to say the least.”
