Police arrested a 77-year-old Ohio man on Tuesday, who reportedly raped his intoxicated step-granddaughter.
James Allen, of Marblehead, is accused of raping his 20-year-old step-granddaughter inside him home. On Tuesday afternoon, Danbury Township authorities went to Allen’s house to perform a welfare check on the victim. Allen allowed officers inside his home and into the victim’s bedroom, where they found her drunk, but otherwise fine.
The officers left the home after noting that nothing was out of the ordinary. Yet, a man in Texas called them and said he saw two videos the victim posted on Snapchat that clearly showed Allen raping her. After viewing the videos, police returned to the home and arrested the suspect. Allen later admitted he had sex with the victim.
“It’s obviously horrific, but at least it allowed us to put a stop to the situation and make a quick arrest in this case,” Ottawa County Prosecutor James VanEerten told The Blade.
Investigators currently have copies of the video and VanEerten asked that anyone who had the videos saved to delete them immediately.
The victim was taken to the Firelands Regional Medical Center for a medical evaluation shortly after Allen’s arrest. It’s still unclear whether she intended to share the videos of the incident.
Allen was booked into the Ottawa County jail on a $1 million bond.
