‘It’s all taken away’: Mom speaks out after alleged drunk driving ex-boyfriend kills her two children

The suspect was convicted in 2015 for driving while intoxicated with a child in the car

Texas police have arrested a man after he allegedly drove drunk and caused an automobile accident that took the lives of two young children, as reported by CBS DFW.

Demitri Gomez, 26, faces three counts of intoxication manslaughter after he was involved in a car crash Friday evening on a North Texas Highway. He survived and is currently recovering in a hospital. The children in the vehicle, Armani Gomez, 3 and Alexxia Gomez, 4, both perished, along with Gomez’s girlfriend Monica Lopez, authorities have noted.

Incidentally, Gomez was convicted in 2015 for driving while intoxicated with a child in the car.

The victims’ mother, Marjorie Angelica Diaz, told reporters that she begged her ex-boyfriend to let his girlfriend drive the car, knowing his history with drinking and driving.

“I spoke to them previously that if they were going to have a few drinks, to not pick up my kids, or if he was going to have a few drinks, for her to drive,” she said.

Gomez was the father of the two children who perished, but the couple separated and Diaz initially took full custody of the children. She changed her mind, however, when she saw how much her two children loved their father, despite his many mistakes.

“At that time, I felt it would be good for me to take custody of my kids, but the only thing that changed my heart was seeing them wanting to go,” she said.

Now, the grieving mother sleeps with her children’s stuffed animals, the only mementos she has left of her once happy life.

“This is all I have of them. I sleep with them every night because now I can’t sleep without them,” she said.

“They were the world to me. Everything to me. Those were my two little miracles. They changed my life completely. Taught me so much… brought so much joy to me,” she said. “And now it’s all taken away.”

Astoundingly, Diaz says she is not mad at her ex-boyfriend, saying that her pain is his pain. The family has set up a GoFundMe account to pay for funeral expenses.

Gomez will be sent to jail to face a judge as soon as he recovers.
