Illinois police have arrested a man and and accused of him of murdering his own father, as reported by NY Daily News.
John Shenko, 22, was apprehended after being found naked and hovering over 60-year-old Kevin Shenko’s bloody and lifeless body, authorities have said.
The 22-year-old also allegedly refused to step away from his father’s corpse, claiming to be God and saying that he killed the devil.
“I’m not getting off of him, you’re going to have to shoot me,” Kane County prosecutors quoted Shenko as telling the deputy. “My name is God. I killed Satan.”
“You’re going to have to trust me, you’re going to have to believe in me.”
Investigators were called to the Shenko residence at around 1 a.m. on August 13 in response to reports of someone screaming for help.
A Kane County deputy found the man atop his father, screaming “Die, die, die, die, die,” according to court records obtained by the Chicago Tribune. Deputies say they had to Taser the 22-year-old multiple times in order to place him in police custody.
During a bond hearing, prosecutors noted that John Shenko has both autism and bipolar disorder, according to Kane County Chronicle.
His mother, Jan Shenko, told the court that her son had been violent as long as she could remember, beginning at a young age.
“He drew a detailed map of his plan to kill one of his teachers,” she told the court, records indicate. “The map included details about how he would kill the teacher by hitting him over the head with a shovel.”
She also said that her son was “extremely abusive” and would often “punch her in the face with a closed fist without provocation.”
Shenko is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is being held at Kane County Jail on $2 million bail.
Kane County Judge John Barsanti has delayed his court date until August 25 in order to determine if the 22-year-old has the mental fitness to stand trial.
