Patients stabs his psychiatrist 165 times, then runs him over with car: Police

A 21-year-old Kansas man is behind bars for reportedly stabbing his psychiatrist 165 times before plowing into him with his car in front of the doctor’s own clinic, according to an affidavit.

KWCH12 reports that on Sept. 19 at 7:20 p.m., an employee at Dr. Achutha Reddy’s Holistic Psychiatry Services clinic in Wichita, called 911 and announced that one of the doctor’s ongoing patients, Umar Dutt, stabbed the psychiatrist numerous times.

According to the arrest affidavit, once officers arrived on the scene, they saw Dr. Reddy lying in the parking lot in front of his clinic, with a multitude of stabs wounds across his body. The employee at the clinic told police that she heard Reddy scream for help at around 7:05 p.m. She rushed to the doctor’s office, where she said she found Edutt stabbing Reddy. She managed the separate the two and Reddy ran out of the back door of the clinic. Dutt followed him.

Police found the psychiatrist lying in the parking lot, but Dutt apparently drove away. At around 7:45 p.m., a security guard at the nearby Wichita Country Club walked up to an unknown gold Toyota Camry in the parking lot and spotted a man blood-soaked khaki shorts sitting in the passenger seat. The man told the guard he’d been beaten up, but the guard couldn’t see any visible wounds and the man didn’t appear hurt.

The security guard immediately called 911. Authorities detained the man in the car, identified as Dutt. While inspecting the Camry, they noticed blood on the right side bumper and a baseball bat in the backseat. They also found a pocket knife inside the vehicle with blood on it and a shirt saturated in blood. After connecting the pieces, police arrested Dutt.

According to a therapist at Dr. Reddy’s office, Dutt stopped by the clinic earlier that afternoon at around 5:30 p.m., asking to see the doctor. Reddy informed the therapist that Dutt did not have an appointment. As the therapist left for the day at around 5:45 p.m., she noticed Dutt standing outside in the parking lot by Reddy’s car. She told authorities she didn’t talk to Dutt, but had no anticipation of him becoming violent.

Dutt faces a first-degree murder. He’s currently behind bars on a $1 million bond. An autopsy performed on the doctor indicated that he had “approximately 165 sharp force trauma injuries.”
