Pennsylvania police arrested a woman and charged her with child endangerment after she allegedly sold drugs and prostituted herself in a home she shared with her 3-year-old daughter, as reported by TribLIVE.
Shania Rae Dickant, 20, was picked up on Wednesday and charged with possession with intent to deliver, drug possession, marijuana possession, drug paraphernalia possession, prostitution and two counts of child endangerment.
Police were led to Dickant’s home on September 1 after noticing what allegedly appeared to be the selling and using of illegal drugs, though she denied the accusation.
The 20-year-old allegedly cried upon being arrested and denied that she even knew that drugs were being sold from the home, saying “she did not want that type of activity in the house with her daughter,” Detective John Swank wrote in a complaint.
However, police found drugs and drug paraphernalia, including pipes and marijuana, during a search of the suspect’s bedroom.
Authorities were again called to the Greensburg home on September 27, after Dickant allegedly prostituted herself on the website Backpage.com. Police say she agreed to a “date” for $180 in the classified section of the website, which is known for being a haven for online prostitution. Investigators also say they found multiple text message conversations on her phone which were alleged to have alluded to other paid trysts.
Backpage, a Dallas-based company, settled a lawsuit this month in which three women maintained they were sold for sex on the popular website when they were as young as 13, as reported by The Washington Post.
According to court records, Dickant has yet to receive legal counsel. It is unknown if a family member took custody of her 3-year-old daughter or if the child was placed with a protective service agency.
