Ben Affleck apologizes for groping Hilarie Burton on TRL amid Harvey Weinstein scandal

Ben Affleck was accused Tuesday night of groping actress Hilarie Burton in 2003 on TRL during an interview.

After being slammed by Rose McGowan on Twitter for insinuating that he had no knowledge of Harvey Weinstein’s sexual abuse of women, Affleck was slammed by Twitter users who took the opportunity to bring up the time the actor groped the then-21-year-old TRL host while he was a guest on the show.

Affleck, who said he was “saddened and angry” with Weinstein, was blasted on Twitter when a user tweeted that Affleck “also grabbed Hilarie Burton’s breasts on TRL once. Everyone forgot though.”

Burton responded to the tweet simply by saying that she remembered the incident very well.

“I didn’t forget”

She said in another tweet that she “had to laugh back then so I wouldn’t cry,” and thanked the Twitter user for bringing the incident up, because she “was just a kid” when it happened.

The incident she’s referring to occurred when she was interviewing Affleck for the show in 2003. When he wraps his arm around her to give her a hug, though his hands are off-screen, Burton visibly jumps. She explains later on, laughing, that “he tweaked my left boob.”

Affleck responded to the allegations Wednesday by taking to Twitter and apologizing for his conduct.

“I acted inappropriately toward Ms. Burton and I sincerely apologize.”

Burton is best known for her work as Peyton Sawyer on One Tree Hill. She also portrayed Sara Ellis in White Collar and Karen Palmer in Lethal Weapon.
