Alabama authorities look for 14-year-old girl last seen leaving for school

Alabama police are looking for a missing teenager, according to an alert issued last week.

As The Birmingham News reported, police say 14-year-old Irma Maria Diego-Gomez was last seen Wednesday morning as she left her Decatur home on her way to school.

When she did not return that afternoon, the school confirmed she never arrived at school, according to WHNT.

The Guatemalan girl did not live with her family in Decatur, authorities said. Her family reportedly resides in Guatemala.

A missing child alert issued Thursday by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency sought help from the public in locating the girl.

Police say she was last seen in blue jeans and a plaid shirt.

She stands about five feet tall and has a slim build, shoulder-length black hair and brown eyes.

There was no additional information about the case in the latest reports available.

According to authorities, they do not know if Diego-Gomez is with another individual.

They are asking anyone with information leading to her recovery to call the Decatur Police Department at 256-341-4660.
