Ex-teacher’s aide accused of sexually assaulting troubled special needs student

A former teacher aide at a Brevard County, Florida, private school is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old student with special needs.

Florida Today reported that Alana Chasky, 35, allegedly had a sexual relationship with the boy between February and September. Palm Bay police said the assaults didn’t happen on campus.

Detectives said that Chasky also worked as a bus aide for Riverdale Country Day School, which is how she met the victim. Police began investigating the 35-year-old last month. She reportedly resigned from her position after the investigation began, the local paper wrote.

The aide’s former employer is owned and operated by Behavioral Education Services, which runs under Universal Health Services. The day school has a contract with Brevard Public Schools but is a separate entity, the Brevard Times explained.

An arrest affidavit obtained by KGMH revealed that the victim’s mother told officers in February that she discovered sexual text messages and images between Chasky and her son on his cellphone. The mother said she was aware that Chasky was interacting with her son because she was supposed to be helping him work through his behavioral issues. However, she told the aide in May to stay away from her son as she felt their relationship was inappropriate, according to the station.

Police said Chasky ignored the mother’s request and continued to meet with the teen.

On July 25, police reportedly spoke with the teen about violating his home detention and being spotted in front of Chasky’s residence. The teen told officers that he exposed himself to Chasky and they had cuddled, the affidavit alleged.

Chasky denied the allegations and police ended their investigation, citing a lack of evidence. However, officers instructed the aide to cease communication with the 14-year-old, the local station reported.

The mother reportedly presented the illicit messages to police on September 10, after the teen was arrested in connection with a burglary that took place at Chasky’s residence while she was out of town. Weeks later, the teen reportedly told officers that he and Chasky had sex in her Palm Bay residence on multiple occasions.

Chasky was arrested Monday and charged with lewd and lascivious battery on a victim between 12 and 16 years old and distributing obscene material to a minor. She was reportedly booked into the Brevard County Jail on a $65,000 bond.
