Orlando police released surveillance footage this week in an effort to identify an individual they say stole a dying man’s belongings after a traffic collision.
The incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday, according to the Orlando Sentinel, as a critically injured pedestrian laid in the road after being struck by a vehicle.
Police reported that the “impact of the crash caused several of his belongings to be catapulted off his body and onto the sidewalk of South Semoran Boulevard.”
Soon after, the video shows a car stop in the road as a passenger exits and picks up what police believe was either the dying pedestrian’s wallet or cellphone off the sidewalk.
Within seconds, the suspect was back in the car and had left the scene.

Orlando Police Department spokesperson Michelle Guido called it “horrific” and “very upsetting” that someone would show “such blatant disregard for the suffering of others” by stealing from the victim of a fatal crash.
“This person went out of his way to take something that didn’t belong to him as others were stopping to render aid,” she said.
According to WKMG, authorities noted that the crime also made it more difficult for them to immediately identify the victim.
As of the latest reports available, the deceased pedestrian’s name had not been released.
Police are asking anyone with information about the suspect seen in the video to call 800-423-8477.
