Mother arrested after doctors realize her toddler did not drown as reported: Cops

A California mother is suspected of killing her toddler Friday after an investigation into reports the 2-year-old boy drowned.

According to WABC, police responded to the Pinon Hills residence Friday afternoon in response to the drowning report.

The child was taken from the scene to an area hospital and was pronounced dead.

Further examination by medical professionals revealed the boy did not die as a result of drowning. Initial reports did not reveal how the child is believed to have died, but noted that examiners found multiple injuries, according to the Daily Press.

“Emergency room doctors requested a law enforcement response after determining the child had not drown and was suffering from numerous injuries,” a police statement advised.

When doctors ruled out the reported cause of death, they contacted authorities, who in turn focused their investigation on the victim’s mother, 30-year-old Crystal Green.

KCBS reported that investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s homicide and crimes against children details conducted the short investigation, which included an interview with Green.

She was arrested on suspicion of murder and, as of the latest reports available, remained in custody at the West Valley Detention Center.

Her first court appearance is set for Tuesday.

Green’s three other children were placed in the custody of social services.
