Teen fatally shoots 10-year-old friend with crossbow after ‘a disagreement’: Police

A 13-year-old Oklahoma boy is accused of fatally shooting a 10-year-old boy with a crossbow Saturday evening.

Lincoln County police told KOKH Monday that the unnamed teen was arrested in connection with the death of Austin Almanza.

Police said they were called to the home following a report of two juveniles being injured with a crossbow. Almanza was pronounced dead at the scene while his 8-year-old brother, Ayden, was hospitalized for an injury to his left arm. The arrow was reportedly still in Ayden’s arm when police arrived.

Authorities believe the broadhead arrow went through Austin’s torso and struck Ayden, who was standing behind him, the local station reported.

Sheriff Charlie Dougherty claimed Monday that the shooting occurred following “a disagreement” between the three boys, according to Tulsa World. The nature of the dispute is unknown at this time.

KOCO reported that Dougherty announced that police are investigating the case as a homicide. He said he expects the District Attorney’s office to file charges sometime this week.

“Austin is not dead because of an accident. He is dead because of an action,” Dougherty said.

The suspect was reportedlu given the crossbow as a gift. Deputies said he is not related to the two victims.

The middle schooler is being held in a juvenile detention center out of the county. Authorities declined to disclose additional details about the 13-year-old, citing his age.
