Man attacks Sen. Paul Ryan at his Kentucky home: Police

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul was reportedly assaulted and received minor injuries at his home this week.

According to CNN, the Kentucky Republican was at his Bowling Green residence Friday afternoon when the incident occurred.

A statement issued by his state communications director indicated Paul was OK following the attack.

“Senator Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault,” Kelsey Cooper said. “The assailant was arrested and it is now a matter for the police. Senator Paul is fine.”

State troopers reportedly responded to the scene. Rene Albert Boucher, 59, was later arrested and jailed on suspicion of fourth-degree assault.

Authorities say the two men were acquaintances, WKBO reported.

A police spokesperson said an investigation is ongoing.

“FBI is involved making sure it wasn’t politically motivated,” the source said.

The Associated Press cited a Kentucky State Police statement Saturday confirming the incident. Authorities did not elaborate on the assault itself or Paul’s injuries.

As of the latest reports available, Boucher was being held at Warren County jail on $5,000 bond.
