Toddler fatally shoots 1-year-old sister with dad’s gun left loaded in bedroom

A Tennessee man was arrested after a 3-year-old grabbed his gun and shot his 1-year-old daughter.

Shawn Moore, 25, faces charges of criminally negligent homicide, being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, and tampering with evidence, according to The Washington Post.

The shooting happened early Friday morning when Moore was visiting the mother of his infant daughter, Robbin Keefer. He reportedly helped to put the infant to sleep before leaving a handgun on the bed and going into another room.

Police say Robbin’s 3-year-old sibling found the gun and shot her in the head with it. It’s unclear how Moore is related to the 3-year-old.

Witnesses who heard the gunshot ran into the room to find the baby on the floor. Moore allegedly grabbed the gun and fled the apartment.

When police arrived and found the child injured, she was rushed to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital where she died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Moore turned himself in later that night and was booked into jail.

His arraignment is scheduled for Monday.

According to Commercial Appeal, Robbin has a familial connection to Laylah Washington, a 2-year-old who was shot to death last year in a chilling unsolved murder.

Laylah’s aunt, Crystal Washington, said her oldest daughter and Robbin are sisters.

The toddler was shot to death last year during a road rage incident, and the murder remains unsolved. Laylah was in the backseat of her mother’s car when a man shot into it, striking and killing the 2-year-old with a bullet.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to raise money for the grieving family members.
