Dad of 11 stabbed to death protecting young son from sneaker robbery: Cops

A father of 11 was allegedly stabbed to death Tuesday night as he protected his 8-year-old son from teens who tried to steal his sneakers.

WPIX reported that two teens have been arrested in connection with the senseless slaying of Jersey City dad Jose “Migue” Malave, 30.

On Friday, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office announced that officers apprehended Nasiar Day, 19, on multiple charges, including murder, armed burglary, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and conspiracy.

According to NJ.com, Malave died in front of his girlfriend and four children. Earlier that day, the 30-year-old’s son was nearly robbed of his sneakers by a group of teens. Relatives claimed the group came to the Jersey City home just as Malave got there and was headed to work.

Police said that Malave intervened and was stabbed as he tried to fend off the teens, the New York Post reported.

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez revealed that a 17-year-old boy has also been arrested and charged with felony murder, armed burglary, weapons offenses, and conspiracy. His identity isn’t being released due to his age.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office is determining Malave’s cause and manner of death.

The victim’s family has started GoFundMe campaign to cover the father’s funeral costs. The fundraiser has earned $6,120 as of Friday night.

“He was always outgoing, always happy, always trying to help people,” his sister, Yesenia Malave, told NJ.com in a phone interview.

“You could be down and he was the one who could bring your life up.”
