Son kills father after argument, victim’s body found in river weeks later: Cops

An Alabama man was arrested last week on suspicion of murdering his father.

According to WHNT, 55-year-old Anthony Ray Jones had been missing since before Christmas, after investigators say he was involved in an altercation with his son, 32-year-old Eric Ray Jones.

The younger Jones was reportedly pulled over by Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Friday and detained over prior warrants with no connection to his father’s disappearance.

As authorities began to question him, however, he reportedly confessed to his father’s murder.

A family member contacted authorities earlier in the day to report the elder Jones missing, as reported by WAAY.

The complainant reportedly indicated he had not been seen since Dec. 19, the same day “there had been an altercation” between him and his son.

Police were soon able to obtain a search warrant for the property on Scott Branch Road where they believed Anthony Jones’ body could be found. According to investigators, the victim’s body was recovered from the Paint Rock River nearby.

As AL.com reported, law enforcement officers remained at the scene for some time collecting evidence. As of the latest updates available, it was still unclear who resided at the address near the spot where the victim’s body was found.

There were also no details available regarding the suspected cause or manner of Anthony Jones’ death.

Reports indicate the suspect was taken into custody and booked into Madison County Jail. His bond was set at $76,000.

Eric Jones is expected to face murder charges.
