WATCH: Brazen thief steals pet dog from family’s front yard

Colorado authorities are on the hunt for a dog thief who was caught on camera stealing a family pet from their front lawn, as reported by ABC 30.

The thievery occurred earlier this week, with the dog’s owner, Jaime Gastelle, confirming that it was her 7-month-old Shih Tzu, Zoe, who was taken.

Surveillance video captured the entire incident, which showed a man drive up in a black truck, wearing a red baseball cap and a blue sweater, and play with the friendly dog for a few moments before snatching her and driving away.

Gastelle posted the video to Facebook, where it has been viewed more than 20,000 times. She also posted better photos to help aid in the search for the missing canine.

Here's a better picture of Zoe Hispa, who is a 7 month old Shih Tzu, female.

The dog owner also expressed her grief over the damage done to her family.

“I’m so sad, she has truly been such a blessing, and for someone to steal her is devastating to our family,” she wrote. “The only chance we have of getting her back is somebody reporting the vehicle or people.”

In a Facebook post shared Thursday afternoon, Gastelle said that Zoe is still lost but that authorities “are working on some leads with license plates.”

She also noted that multiple neighborhood sources have suggested the vehicle seen in the video is a Chevrolet Silverado, and that it possibly had alloy rims, a custom exhaust, no front license plate and was manufactured between 2000 and 2009.

As for why Zoe was left unattended on the front lawn tied to a tree, Gastelle wrote they often leave her out front so neighborhood children could pet her.
