Teen records GRAPHIC video of kitten abuse, outraged viewers prompt police involvement

A California teen is facing charges related to a disturbing video allegedly showing his extreme abuse of a small cat.

According to KTXL, the video was recorded more than a year ago, when Garret Haile was 17.

“Welcome to Badass, and this is Felipe the flying cat,” a voice, apparently that of the camera operator, says to begin the clip.

Shortly thereafter, the individual identified by police as Haile picks up the cat and flings it into the water, according to the Modesto Bee.

The graphic video has since been shared widely across social media platforms.

Patterson police indicated that they launched an investigation after noticing the attention the video had been receiving online.

Haile was arrested Friday, days after his 18th birthday, on his way to school. He is expected to be charged — as a minor — with felony animal cruelty.

The cameraman, who had not been identified as of the latest reports available, could also face charges.

Investigators are attempting to determine where the kitten was dumped. The animal’s fate is not known at this time.

One of the outraged users who shared the clip described her reaction to viewing it the first time.

“My heart, it just left my body,” Nicole Pinheiro said.

She said her mother “burst into tears” upon watching it a short time later.

“She was like, ‘I can’t believe that this is the world now,'” Pinheiro said.
