Nebraska police arrested a woman and accused her of abusing a child in her care, as reported by Omaha World-Herald.
Hollie Budka-Hernandez, 47, is alleged to have beaten her boyfriend’s 5-year-old son with a belt after he wet the bed, according to an arrest record issued earlier this week. The incident, occurring on the weekend before January 29, came to the attention of police when officers visited the child’s elementary school, on behest of school officials.
The unnamed boy told investigators that Budka had “twisted his genitals” during that same incident, a prosecutor said in court Wednesday.
Budka-Hernandez denied hitting the boy with a belt but, strangely, admitted to grabbing his testicles. Authorities noted in court that the boy had multiple injuries after the incident, including a red and bruised penis and a bruised leg, in addition to having marks on his neck. Police stated that the incident occurred during a weekend in which the boy left his mother to stay with his father and the accused.
The boy’s uncle spoke to KETV and expressed grief over the horrific episode.
“It’s heartbreaking. It’s heartbreaking. Especially when you’re closely related to the victim,” he said.
Budka-Hernandez has been charged with felony child abuse and held on $30,000 bail. She has also been ordered to have no contact with the 5-year-old boy. It has been noted that the accused has two children of her own, a public defender said during the bail hearing. It is unknown if the child’s father knew of the abuse.
