URGENT: Search for missing 4-year-old girl enters second day, mother taken to hospital

South Carolina authorities are searching for a little girl who disappeared on Tuesday from her Johns Island home.

WSPA reports that Heidi Todd disappeared from the family home off of Sweetleaf Lane at some point on Tuesday evening before 5:30 p.m. Local police officers, along with the firefighters and the U.S. Coast Guard are searching the area for child. Heidi’s mother was hospitalized on Tuesday, and although police haven’t confirmed why, the Missing Pieces Network indicated that there may have been a possible break-in at the home and the mother could have possibly been attacked.

The search around the child’s neighborhood and surrounding area lasted around nine hours, with the search team stopping at around 3 a.m. on Wednesday. The search resumed Wednesday morning at daylight. Authorities placed yellow police tape around Sweetleaf Lane and its surrounding areas while they search homed to home and nearby bodies of water.

“Investigators are trying to determine how long she has been missing,” Charles Francis with Charleston police said on Tuesday.
