After boy shoots his 4-year-old sister ‘multiple times,’ mom leaves them alone to go to work: Prosecutor

An Ohio mom has been arrested and charged with child endangerment after her 8-year-old son got ahold of a rifle and repeatedly shot his 4-year-old sister on Saturday afternoon, as previously reported by CrimeOnline.

New allegations have since surfaced against Alyssa Edwards, 29, who is now accused her of coming home after being called by her son that and told that he had repeatedly shot her daughter, cleaning up some of the mess and then heading straight back to work. Authorities say she did this instead of alerting officials or taking her daughter to the hospital, as reported by Time.

These allegations come from a prosecutor in a bail hearing held on Monday, with the lawyer alleging that Edwards left her two children alone again after cleaning up a bloody bed cover and quickly checking up on her daughter’s injuries.

Her daughter was taken to a medical center in Cleveland, where she was listed in stable condition, though details on the nature of her injuries remain scant. Ashland County Chief Deputy Carl Richert has stated that the unidentified girl’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, noting that she was shot “multiple times.”

Police have not announced the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including how the 8-year-old found the rifle and why he shot his sister.

A judge has set Edwards’ bond at $30,000. Her 8-year-old son has been placed with child protective services. She will be provided with a public defendant on Wednesday.

This is an ongoing investigation.
