Prison for mom who married her own son AND daughter

A Norman, Oklahoma, mother who once married her own son before marrying her own daughter was sentenced to prison this week.

NewsOK reports that Patricia Ann Spann, 45, was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to incest. Spann admitted to marrying her biological daughter in March 2016 and living together in Duncan.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Spann reunited with adult daughter and two sons in 2014 after losing custody of them. The mother married one of those sons in 2008 but the marriage was annulled in 2010 when the son reported it as incest.

Patricia’s daughter, Misty, 26, pleaded guilty to incest in November. However, her plea was withdrawn after it was learned that her deferred sentence was prohibited under state law, according to KFOR.

The station reports that Patricia claimed she believed the marriage was legal because she had lost custody of her children and wasn’t listed on their birth certificates.

People reports that a judge annulled the union in October 2017, finding that “the mother had induced her daughter by fraud to enter the marriage.”

Patricia claimed that she didn’t have a sexual relationship with her son and had married him so he wouldn’t be sent into the military. She said she married Misty “in hopes of adopting a child,” an affidavit stated.

According to NewsOK, a worker with the Department of Human Services alerted local police to the incestuous marriage. The worker reportedly learned of the illicit relationship while conducting a child welfare investigation.

Upon her release, the Oklahoma mother will serve eight years’ probation and must register as a sex offender. Misty’s sentencing is scheduled for next week.
