A Washington man and woman are dead after their youngest son, said to be “full of anger” allegedly shot them dead in their Pierce County home on Wednesday.
KOMO News reports that 21-year-old Jared Standley (pictured center) is accused of shooting and killing his parents, Steven Standley, 55, and Theresa Standley, 56, at their residence off of the 23000 block of 162nd St. E. in Pierce County.

According to Pierce County authorities, deputies arrived to the home after the couple’s other son called 911 and asked for a welfare check on his parents. He indicated that his brother, Jared Standley, had recently arrived in town and had “anger issues” that worried him. He also said his father told him Standley was at the home causing issues and to call 911 if he didn’t hear back from him within 20 minutes.
“The father told his son, if you don’t hear from me in 20 minutes, call 911,’ ” Det. Ed Troyer said.
When the deputies arrived to the home, they found both Steven and Theresa Standley dead from gunshot wounds to the head. Troy stated that the suspect may have planned to bury their bodies, as one body had been wrapped up in tarp.
The victim had already left the home when the deputies arrived, but authorities found him at 1:15 a.m the following morning, hiding out inside a car in the parking lot of a Comfort Inn hotel in Tumwater. When police approached the suspect and asked him to get out of the vehicle, he allegedly put his foot on the gas pedal and sped toward them. An officer shot the suspect in shoulder, which didn’t seem to deter Standley. He continued to drive away until another officer intentionally hit the vehicle.

Authorities took the suspect to a local hospital for treatment after the shooting. His injuries were non-life threatening; he was later arrested and booked on aggravated murder charges. While speaking to detectives, Standley reportedly announced that he shot and killed his parents because he “hates them that much” and that shooting them in their heads didn’t upset him.
“I don’t feel like a gunshot to the head is really that upsetting… But I, I was fairly apologetic about having to bludgeon Terry (his mom) twice.”
Along with shooting his parents, however, he also brutally beat his mother with a baseball bat before his father, Steven, returned home, police said. When Steven walked into the house, the suspect allegedly shot him in the head, then shot his mother in the head. The suspect then cut his hair to change his physical appearance, according to police.
Standley faces life in prison without parole if convicted, or death if prosecutors choose to pursue the death penalty against him.
