Mom gives birth on toilet while high on drugs, doesn’t go to hospital after birth: Police

A young mother on drugs who birthed her child in a bathroom then failed to seek medical attention for the baby was charged Tuesday with felony injury to a child in Kingwood, TX.

According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, Stephanie Annette Brock, 21, had taken opiates and marijuana before giving birth to a baby boy on March 1 while sitting on a toilet.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office detectives allege that Brock didn’t seek medical care for the newborn until March 17 when the incident was reported to authorities. Doctors were able to determine that the baby, who police told KPRC has survived the ordeal, had an illegal substance in his system at the time of his birth.

Court documents obtained by the Midland Reporter-Telegram show that Brock was arrested this past Saturday on charges independent of the baby’s birth and subsequent neglect. She fled as law enforcement attempted to detain her for cocaine possession.

The injury to a child charge related to her son’s washroom delivery was filed by prosecutors on Tuesday, and drug-related charges could be added to the case.

Brock was known to Harris County police from a June 2015 theft incident where she pleaded guilty to stealing books and shoes from a shop, and served three days in jail for the crime.

The suspect remains in jail Friday with bail set at $45,000.
